Designer Iris Apfel was born in 1921. Her father was Samuel Barre, who was a businessman. Apfel’s mother was Sadye Barrel, and she ran her own fashion house. The life she lived as a young girl in Astoria, Queens, with her family inspired her to be a world-famous fashion icon later. Apfel used to visit antique shops in Manhattan and collect elegant pieces of jewellery. Today, this incredible collection of jewellery is displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Furthermore, the Costume Institute of the Museum decided to showcase her wonderful fashion collection in their exhibition in 2005. They named it “Rara Avis: The Irreverent Iris Apfel. It was a historical event because no living artist had been granted the opportunity to have an exhibition dedicated solely to them before.

Apfel followed her own unique fashion style. Her approach was unconventional. Her colour coordination and accessory selection were a radical break from tradition. This legendary designer Iris Apfel, wasn’t limited to playing with Western fashion. Her taste was rich in items from different fashion cultures from different corners of the world. The credit goes to the several world tours she was lucky to be a part of with her husband, Carl.

Styled by Iris Apfel..

Many famous fashion brands were willing to collaborate with designer Iris Apfel. Mattel created a Barbie that looks like her in 2018. They also launched two dolls titled “Styled by Iris Apfel”. She has also worked with H&M and the famous British beauty brand Ciate London as well. The surprising fact is that she was 100 years old when both of those collaborations happened. There is no better proof to show how influential she was. Apfel also stated to the media that she would never quit her profession as a fashion influencer at her 100th birthday party.
