It is often that one can never have too much black clothing in their closet, and that is probably because it goes with everything. The same may also be true of the humble penny, as one Los Angelis based artist has proved by crafting a vintage-inspired cocktail dress from over two thousand of them. It is one of the most jaw-dropping pieces of fashion we have ever seen.

The 22-year-old artist Shay Rose (aka Crescent Shay) created the unique look by stitching 1800 pennies onto black fabric to create her body and sleeves. Then added an additional 300 pennies along the bottom to form the dress’s skirt. She makes her living designing performance art for the stage, but she is also incredibly talented when it comes to making really out of the box garment from unconventional materials. However, she took old pennies and made them into an eye-catching dress that was part of her show.

Shay has an amazing talent for turning simple materials into beautiful art. Further, she has got couple of ideas for small projects in near future as well. However, on completion of the vintage-inspired cocktail, she says on her Instagram account that “But it’s finally done!!! And honestly, despite all the work it took, I really do think it was worth it. This dress came out so much cooler than I initially imagined it would- I love this dress so much, I am so proud that I was able to bring this weird idea to life.”
